COOL-ER eBook Reader

More than words

Hand holding the COOL-ER eBook Reader

E Ink technology mimics
real paper!

Read any good books lately? We have, yet our shelves are completely bereft of the papery, space-thieving blighters. And that’s because we’ve been perusing the hottest fiction, romance, fantasy, horror and more using the incredible COOL-ER eBook Reader.

Set to become the iPod of eReaders, this wafer thin gizmo will revolutionise the way you read and buy books. Because let’s face it, much as we love good ol’ paper and ink, the relentless march of technology waits for no one – after all, you’re reading from a screen right now.

360 degree view of the COOL-ER eBook Reader

45% lighter than other eReaders

Capable of storing between 500-800 novels, the 1GB COOL-ER (expandable via SD) uses E-ink technology to replicate the experience of reading a book. It has to be seen to be disbelieved; the glare-free 6” display looks just like paper. You’ll be tempted to lick your finger to turn the pages. It’s also unaffected by direct sunlight, so you can carry on reading wherever you may roam. Amazing!

25% Lifetime discount from coolerbooks.com

Download 1000s of books!

Simply download your books from any of the countless online sources floating around in cyberspace and drag them on to this USB friendly slice of genius. It’s easier than…erm, picking up a book. Better still, all COOL-ER owners receive a 25% lifetime discount at Coolerbooks.com, home to over 750,000 titles, 500,000 of which are completely free. You’re spoilt for choice: thrillers, chick lit, biographies, children’s books, languages, best sellers – we were even gripped by a guide to used Fiat Bravas, which is hardly surprising because we still haven’t got over the novelty of reading books digitally. Bulky tomes? How terribly last century.

Hand holding the COOL-ER eBook Reader

The COOL-ER’s internal battery charges in around three hours and lasts for 8000 page turns (the equivalent of reading War and Peace five times). And should you fall asleep (which you undoubtedly will if you’re reading War and Peace five times) it automatically switches off after 15 minutes.

Available in all the colours of the rainbow

Visitor Reviews…

visitor avatar This looks just like like a 4th gen ipod nano, except for the considerably larger black and white screen, but it plays mp3s! It really is the iPod of eReaders!
Paul, Wickford, Essex - Jul ’09

visitor avatar Question: can you buy a mains adapter or can you only charge via a PC?
Clare, Farnborough - Oct ’09

Firebox says: We do not sell one unfortunately, but any USB charger adaptor will do the trick. Available from all good electrical retailers..and some bad ones too.

visitor avatar How does it handle Colour in PDFs? I’m looking at using this to read OU texts while commuting, and it’s likely that there will be colour in there. Obviously it can’t show the colour, but does it greyscale, or not show the image, or refuse the document?
Dominic, Uxbridge, Middlesex - Oct ’09

Firebox says: It’ll greyscale any images in the PDF :)

visitor avatar Does it work with the Kindle store and Waterstones?
Kit, UK - Oct ’09

Firebox says: Nope, but COOLERBOOKS.com is the biggest ebookstore in the world at the moment!

visitor avatar Can you buy textbooks and other academic books for it? If you can, it has the potential to make my life sooooo much easier!
Shay, Glasgow - Sep ’09

Firebox says: You certainly can. Check out coolerbooks.com for all the titles.

visitor avatar Are graphic novels/manga avaliable to download or is it just novels?
Fraser, Liverpool - Sep ’09

Firebox says: Yep. All are available from www.coolerbooks.com

visitor avatar I haven’t bought one of these, and neither will I be doing!! I can’t believe anyone could want to demoralise the fabulous book that smells good, feels good and…how to describe it…it’s REAL!! Soon everything will be transferred to this two-dimensional world, and we won’t be able to physically ‘touch’ anything…good luck to you guys if you make a million, but really, is this the way we want the world to go?????
Anna, STAFFORDSHIRE - Aug ’09

Firebox says: Long live the paperback! The COOL-ER eBook Reader, doesn’t have to be instead of, the beloved novel. It can be an alternative, and I don’t think either would look out of place on the ol’ bookshelf.

visitor avatar Not a review, more of a correction. The Cool-Er website mentions that there are 8 shades of grey (same as Sony reader – that doesn’t support Mac). So it seems to be able to be read in low light. Also, the web site mentions capability of zooming in (eight text sizes).
Anthony, Wales - Aug ’09
visitor avatar A little warm for my taste, I’ll pass until I see an ebook reader with SDHC support.
Loki, Bucks - Jul ’09
visitor avatar What’s the name of the book in the preview picture?
Stacey, Leicester - Jul ’09
Firebox says: War and Peace.

What makes the COOL-ER ereader so good?

October 29, 2009 Posted by admin

The e reader market is really hotting up since the launch of the much awaited Kindle from Amazon.  Whilst the Kindle has caused quite a storm in the USA it is a lesser know rival that is fast becoming the real star of the e reader show here in the UK.

The Cool-er e reader is a super light super thin version which is available in 8 trendy colours and is modelled very much on the ipod nano.  It is manufactured by Coolerbooks which boast that they are the largest stockists of ebooks in the world with well over 1 million titles on offer 500,000 of which are totally free to download giving it a huge advantage over its more publicised rivals like the Kindle and Sony.  In addition to this owners of the cooler ereader will also qualify for a further discount of 25% off any ebook purchase.

This e reader really does address the concerns regarding actual reading quality and overall experience and uses the very latest technology in the Eink Vizplex screen.  This mimics a paper book and allows you to read at any angle even in direct sunlight.

Standard storage is around 300 normal sized novels which is less than both the Kindle and the Sony but should more memory be required an additional memory card will provide thousands more titles so this aspect is not really a major concern and I for one don’t have more than 300 current books I need immediate access to!  Battery life is better than most and only needs power for a page turn and provides in excess of 8000 page turns without the need to recharge.  The cooler comes with a charger and additional USB cable to charge directly from the PC and is compatible with both Windows and Macs.

Technically it is packed with the very latest features with different text and font styles, image views and can read jpeg, pdf, txt html and epub documents making it ideal for many work related functions.

The Cooler really does have it all, the stylish good looks, on average 45% lighter than its rivals and the largest selection of e-books from its own superstore in the world.  Priced at just £189.95 this is an excellent product and well worth investing into.
